Who we are

Pedder & Scampton Architects Ltd is a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) registered practice. It’s a small, busy office based in North London, with a very varied workload that encompasses projects all over London, throughout the UK and elsewhere. For instance we have recently worked on residential properties in Ireland, France and Scotland. We carry out projects with construction budgets of up to around £15 million.  To download an introduction to the practice, please click here.

Both Directors, Helen Pedder and Gillian Scampton, have a particular interest in Community and Educational buildings in their widest sense and specialist residential accommodation for those with physical disabilities, mental health issues and autism.

We also get great satisfaction from creating contemporary living spaces. We enjoy using materials, colour and texture in inventive ways. We develop strong relationships with our clients and many have returned for further projects - both for private homes and commercial premises.

With 35 years’ experience we deliver high quality results and bespoke user friendly designs that reflect and fulfil your needs and aspirations. We deliberately limit the size of our practice in order to give your project the individual attention of one of the Directors throughout the entire process. We aim always to develop the full potential of your space, complementing existing elements with carefully considered additions. This means you can be confident that the opportunities in your brief will be maximised and the available funds used to greatest benefit and effect – giving you multi use, adaptable spaces and value from start to finish.

For the very best results we prefer to provide full architectural services from inception to completion of your building. This means we can work closely with you and the construction team to ensure the key ideas in the design are brought to fruition. However, we are also able to provide a partial service should this be appropriate. We enjoy a high success rate in achieving planning permissions – including contemporary extensions to listed buildings, and new buildings in conservation areas and public sensitive spaces.

Our project experience covers working to timetables affected by grant applications and accommodating a number of differing user group requirements. Many of our projects are in occupied buildings and require phased works (for example where there are elements of self build or particular time constraints such as school holidays). We have an ongoing interest in sustainable issues and expect to adopt simple measures as a matter of course - for example maximising natural light and using ‘green’ materials. Other possibilities, such as the use of renewable energy sources, are evaluated as appropriate for each project.

‘…your architects are amazing.  I’ve seen hundreds of projects all over the country and believe me, your lot are the best.  No one has reflected the needs of the residents/members with such latitude of thinking, depth of understanding and glorious attention to detail.  The building embodies empathy with those who will use it.’
