To help improve the relatively low level of recycling on high rise public housing estates in Haringey, Pedder & Scampton was commissioned to create pilot recycling projects and then roll these out to a further 13 sites. The brief was to make a positive contribution to the street scene with visually attractive and interesting sites that are safe and easy to use. Our solution was to create a kit of parts that could be adapted to different locations. We also wanted to use recycled materials and create relevance for the local communities. The panels therefore incorporate art produced by local artists and schools using recycled glass, plastics and other materials. They also include information about local recycling and community notice boards.

“The public has given the thumbs-up to the top-notch sites in Seven Sisters as usage has increased dramatically. The amount of recylables collected has risen by more than 20%.”
London Borough of Haringey Recycling and Community Projects Manager
