residential re-purposing

Sketch proposals to look at three differing approaches for new residential units built on the roof of a former rag trade building in London's East end: duplex barrel vaulted units, linear single storey stacked flats with shared courtyard gardens along the circulation route, and stacked single & double storey boxes with private terraces.

Located on a street being redeveloped with towers of flats and a large hospital, the scheme would re-purpose a pre war building that while not remarkable has character and is part of the history of the local area.

The proposals don't try to compete with the giant buildings under construction adjacent but provide characterful housing for families and individuals at a street scale. The existing building would be converted from small business units into live-work units as part of a new on-site community.
