Porters Grange School

Space use analysis

Feasibility study commissioned by Southend-on-sea Education department to assess the existing Primary school and make proposals for the creation of an additional Reception classroom to accommodate a short term increase in school places. This included as analysis of how the 'bulge' could be accommodated in susbsequent years without further major alterations to the buildings plus how a 3 form intake for a further 2 years could work. The proposed Reception classroom is part of an enlarged and improved Reception class 'cluster' with level access to meet DDA requirements and a new covered outdoor play space. We also prepared studies for: the relocation of the school entrance and associated works to improve the offices and entry spaces, proposals to make better use of existing/original courtyards as dedicated year group external spaces and to improve daylight to the core of the buildings, and improvements to staff and curriculum support spaces.
