Northwich has few public squares or major public buildings and the town centre appears to lack a focus or provide an enjoyable forum for local public events. Pedder & Scampton submitted a competition design for a new cultural centre that addresses this lack by creating a large hall, similar to a Guildhall, that acts as a town ‘living room’. It contains all the major public spaces – auditorium, foyer, gallery and dance theatre - under one large roof that can be glimpsed as a landmark from various points in the town.
