Disability Hub

Conversion of a former Day Centre to provide a borough wide base to bring together learning, support and community facilities for people with a wide range of special needs including those with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, mental health problems, dementia etc. A dedicated wing for people with autism creates a more private suite of rooms whilst allowing individuals to engage with other Hub activities should they feel ready to do so.
The project incorporates a shared meeting/foyer space with individual advice and media booths, large and small activity rooms, a training kitchen and laundry, sensory room, external picnic and exercise area and a sensory garden.
Spaces and finishes have been carefully designed to meet the varied needs of the users and to encourage and support individual growth and development.
Design development included workshops with the staff who will be working in the Hub, presentations to stakeholders and public consultations with the user groups and their families.
