It's always satisfying when our projects have a long term focus.  This one involved the extension and remodelling of a tall semi-detached north London house at both attic and ground floor levels. A key part of the brief from our clients was that the ground floor be adaptable so that the couple could retreat to live on the ground floor of the house with minimal alterations should either of them become unable to use the stairs in the future - at which point younger family members would move into the upper floors. We designed the ground floor layout to Lifetime Homes standards with adaptations including a ramped access to the back door with a charging point and shelter for a mobility scooter, level threshold to the garden terrace, a disabled accessible shower room, a study that could easily be repurposed as a bedroom and generous circulation widths to suit the less mobile.
