Preliminary studies for London Borough of Haringey for new build supported housing for people with autism including associated communal and staff facilities. The site is adjacent to a large park with good local connections via road, bus and underground at Wood Green.

The study covered:

- the constraints and benefits of the site, particularly in relation to a user group with low to middle autism needs

- the differing forms of accommodation that were feasible: 1 and 2 bed independent flats and shared ‘houses’

- potential layouts of the accommodation types on the site

- associated on site staff support accommodation and community facilities

- potential for residents and the local autism community to share the facilities for day activities

- massing studies on the potential building forms to achieve a domestic scale balancing communal areas and privacy

- outline assessment with the client of the option schemes to consider aspects such as staffing, physical pros and cons for this particular group such as daylight and shielding from noise and other considerations

- flat plan type options and potential multiple assemblies
