Pedder and Scampton have carried out a number of projects specifically aimed at improving external spaces. These include improvement works to the courtyard of a single mens hostel in central London to create social/amenity space. A small pavilion provides sheltered seating, dividing the space so that a number of different groups can use the courtyard at the same time. Deep planters give the opportunity for a gardening project to green the courtyard.

Proposals for an Islington Primary School Playground aimed to increase the opportunities for all types of play: natural, creative, physical, group and individual. Elements included a nature area, cultivated garden, and story telling shelter. The scheme aimed to create an environment that could respond to children's imaginative games, differing seasons and to special events such as fairs and sports days.
